Contrary to Popular Belief…..

I’m back after a long hiatus. Hello again. It’s been a while. I’ve been promoted to a new position at work and yet still working hard on my brand. My art, music and writing are all still the center of my work outside of my professional career.

One reason I haven’t been posting is that I’ve had a lot of difficulty deciding which direction to go with my online ventures. I’ve had a lot of irons in the fire. Deciding a direction is key to any venture. Many people talk about making your brand online and finding your niche. After a year of trying different things I’ve decided to focus more on writing. I have a lot to offer from what’s been revealed to me over the last few years. The only way to keep it is to give it away.

When I was 8 or 9 years old all I did was read and write. We had the Accelerated Reader program at school to acknowledge our accomplishments in reading. I need to be careful, I’m dating myself! My own self doubt has kept me from trying things. Mostly due to my “programming” if you will. The more I thought about it, writing was the first form of expression that I was using.

Later, I was expressing myself in song lyrics and documents for work. I never really stopped, I just didn’t recognize that it was still such a big part of my life. I do recognize this now.

Where my music is concerned, I did release a demo to a private link on Youtube of a song I was working on. I got stuck on it somewhere. I think I may have spent more time on that song that any song I have ever written. It amazes me that I could spend so much time on something that in the end I have very mixed feelings about.

I’m also still painting. I had 2 of my paintings posted in the Milton Studio Art Gallery about a month ago. I’m working on a portrait at the moment. I also tend to have some self doubt about my paintings. It doesn’t seem to be as bad as my songs. That leads into my writing.

I started using bullet journal(s) when I started my new position a work. It has been a major advantage for me to organize my thoughts and get them out of my head. It was rough at first. Most of my trouble as due to trying to use everyone else’s format and not my own. Now that I’ve been at it for a few months, it is really working for me.

So, here it is……. I’ve started working on a book. I want to share my progress as I go. What tools I’m using, books I’m reading and so on. A good friend of mine encouraged me to start blogging again. So here it is.

What am I reading right now? Everybody Writes: Your Go-To Guide to Creating Ridiculously Good Content by Ann Handley

Here’s an idea from the book I’m writing: OTED -> One Thing Every Day You should try to do one thing every day to get to your goal. You will start to build momentum and you will begin to see progress. You won’t feel guilty that you’re not moving towards something.

I’m using Scrivener as my word processor. I’m new to the software but I’m enjoying it so far.
